This is where minor announcements will be made that do not need to be on the main page.

-----------------------------------------------

8/07/07 @ 10:36 AM CST - Announcements will now be made in new posts in this thread.

7/24/07 @ 11:18 AM CST - We've released CAMB 1.24, which introduces Intel-specific optimizations.

7/19/07 @ 04:08 PM CST - The maximum number of results in progress per host has been lowered to 25 in preparation for the longer WUs. This will disrupt the flow of shorter WUs temporarily, but the problem will end when the shorter WUs run out and the longer ones take over.

7/19/07 @ 10:00 AM CST - Longer WUs are most likely coming today. I will make an announcement on the main web page when it's up.

7/12/07 @ 10:47 AM CST - CAMB 1.21 for Windows has been released. This version should fix the floating-point arithmetic errors and the speed deficiency compared to the Linux version.

7/11/07 @ 09:32 AM CST - We're going to try out HR again, this time using the revised system just released in the new BOINC server software. Some users may see that they cannot crunch any WUs; if this happens, please make a post in the Technical Support forum.

7/09/07 @ 10:21 AM CST - The project will be down momentarily as I upgrade the server software again.

7/03/07 @ 12:16 PM CST - All users with results marked "too late" due to the project being down last weekend have been awarded credit according to the number of results returned. However, I was unable to recover information about results marked "not needed" by the server, so some results will remain uncredited.

7/02/07 @ 05:24 PM CST - We've been hearing that the return period for results is too short, so future WUs will have a deadline of 1 week instead of 3 days.

6/28/07 @ 10:49 AM CST - Users should no longer be seeing the error in which the first scheduler request fails, but the second succeeds. If the error persists, please tell me so I can further investigate.

6/27/07 @ 02:15 PM CST - Using HR with the relatively small number of users we currently have does not seem to work very well. Therefore, HR has been disabled for now.

6/27/07 @ 09:01 AM CST - Homogeneous redundancy has been turned on for CAMB so that we can determine the rate of result invalidation with the current validator when differences between architecture are removed.

6/25/07 @ 11:40 AM CST - A new version of CAMB has been released which reduces the size of the output files by a factor of about 9. This should also have the side-effect of increasing the rate at which results are validated.

6/21/07 @ 09:34 AM CST - I've just compiled binaries for the 64-bit Linux platform. Please report any issues you may be seeing in the technical support forum.

6/20/07 @ 09:46 AM CST - Camb_validator was down earlier today due to faulty error handling. The problem has now been fixed.

6/19/07 @ 04:34 PM CST - Everything should be working fine again. If you see that a Windows machine gives you errors on a certain WU constantly, abort the WU and everything should be fine.

6/19/07 @ 11:36 AM CST - The project will be temporarily down while upgrades are made to the CAMB application.

6/18/07 @ 11:11 AM CST - I'm going to make some WUs to test the validator I'm working on. It's very likely that a lot of these WUs are going to end up invalid, so you may not get credit for these. However, you will be helping me out a lot!

6/14/07 @ 03:23 PM CST - Some of you are still seeing errors due to WUs exceeding rsc_fpops_bound. I've increased the limit to accomodate hosts which take more fpops to finish, but still return a good result.

6/14/07 @ 11:44 AM CST - I've cleaned up the forums a bit to make things more logically placed.

6/14/07 @ 11:00 AM CST - Around 60 results today were erroneously considered "inconclusive" due to a glitch in the validator. The issue has been fixed.

8/7/07 @ 10:37 AM CST - New test application

Soon, we are going to release a test application with very little work (probably only 10 at a time) in order to test the wrapper-less version of CAMB. These will be short runs, probably lasting less than a minute. Also, no credit will be given for these runs.

8/8/07 @ 4:05 PM CST - New Test_camb Version

I've released a new test_camb version which should be working. The original app (1.01) was faulty since boinc_finish was called before the program was finished writing the output files.

8/9/07 @ 1:20 PM CST - New test WUs and progress reporting
Since the stand-alone CAMB test app seems to be working with short WUs, I'm going to release some of the longer WUs and see how that works out.

Also, please tell me if progress reporting is working for the test app.

8/17/07 @ 10:22 AM CST - Lower Credit for CAMB WUs

50 credit will be awarded from now on for CAMB WUs instead of 60 credits.

8/21/07 @ 5:11 PM CST - Post Rating and Work Generation

I've disabled post ratings since certain users are childishly down-rating posts made by people they don't like. Besides, does anybody really consider post ratings anyway?

Also, no more new work will be generated until the pending work count goes down. Users may find that work is hard to come by, but this will be a temporary roadblock.

8/28/07 @ 3:27 PM CST - Pending WUs and Restarting Work Generation

Today, we had about 4000 WUs, many of which were left over from over a week ago. Most of the ones that weren't sent out had download errors, which doesn't tend to get fixed when the scheduler decides to resend results. Therefore, I canceled many of these WUs (sort of like cutting out a cancerous mass).

Now that the old WUs are (mostly) gone, I've re-started work generation. Hopefully we'll be able to build back up to around 15k unsent results by tonight.

Sorry for the lost of credits/work/time, but things should be downhill from here.

9/10/07 @ 1:30 PM CST - Project down during maintenance

Cosmology@Home will be down for a couple of hours while we perform server maintenance related to the vast number of errors we've been seeing for the past couple of hours. I'll be sure to notify everyone when we're back up.

9/18/2007 @ 2:18 PM CST - New Website Design Part 2 Is Now Up

As you can see, the new website design is up and working. I'm going to try to add an option for users to use the old version of the site if they don't like the new version.

9/19/2007 @ 9:15 AM CST - Change the Page Width

I added the option to change the page width to nearly full-screen. Click the link entitled "Change Page Width" under the "returning participants" category in either the navbar or the index page.

10/27/2007 @ 23:25 UTC - CAMB 2.01 Released

CAMB 2.01 has been released, which should fix a couple of issues dealing with result validation and voluntarily yielding to other apps in compliance with the user's preferences.

10/31/07 @ 1:15 UTC - CAMB 2.04 Released

CAMB 2.04 has been released, which should fix the issues concerning checkpointing and constant restarting. Also, it seems to be obeying the client's commands now (e.g. suspend should actually suspend the selected application).

11/14/07 @ 21:55 UTC - Website is back up, but project is still down

Our server was pretty much destroyed on Friday night, and we couldn\'t get any new hardware until Monday. I\'ve spent every waking hour not in class with the new server to get it up and running, but sorry it took so long anyway.

I\'ll be here until I can get the project daemons up and running as well.

Look for more announcements in the near future.

1/24/08 @ 6:55 UTC - Server Changes and Fixing the Scheduler Issues

As you all have noticed, we\'ve been experiencing some trouble with the server due to a change in the project URL. It stems from some problems with apache and the BOINC client, and it seems like we won\'t be able to avoid some loss of credit on the way to solving the problem. Here\'s what you can do to fix things:

1) If you are concerned about losing credit, make a list of the WUs that you are unable to report and send it to me via PM.
2) Re-attach to the project using this URL: http://cosmologyathome.org. At 11 PM UTC tomorrow, you may also use http://www.cosmologyathome.org (this currently points to the wrong place, but it will be fixed tomorrow during the daily DNS update).

We have released a new version of CAMB which is identical to the previous version. This had to be done because our server software associated the download URL for 2.04 with the old URL. Don\'t worry; 2.05 runs exactly the same as 2.04.

As of today, the old URL (http://cosmos.astro.uiuc.edu/cosmohome) will no longer function for making scheduler requests. In fact, the only thing it *will* do is allow web browsers to navigate to the new URL. Therefore, if you don\'t re-attach to the project, you will find it difficult to keep crunching.

I\'ve said it before, but I\'ll say it again: I sincerely apologize for the inconvenience I\'ve caused you. I didn\'t foresee a \"simple\" task like changing the project URL to be so difficult, but it ended up that way. If you have any concerns or questions, feel free to make a post on the forum or send me a PM.

1/25/2008 @ 3:29 UTC - Re-attaching to Cosmology@Home

If you have not re-attached since yesterday, you need to re-attach or you will forever have problems contacting the server.

3/5/08 @ 20:24 UTC - CAMB 2.06 release

Later on today, we will be releasing CAMB 2.06. Most of the changes are to the science part of the code, but we have created a new progress indication and checkpointing system which should fix some of the wonky issues that we\'ve been experiencing up to this point with suspending/resuming.
