Hello Cosmology@Home Community Members, A number of you have asked about the status of the project and how the work you have contributed has been used. I am very pleased to inform you that Professor Wandelt has written a detailed response in which he answers some of the important questions you have asked. There will be more updates to come soon. Happy crunching, Faik --- Member of The C@H Team! |

Hi, Faik! Since Ben's letter four months ago, he has not followed up with more updates especially on the website's homepage. Do you have any information? Bill |

Let me try to put up some information together to address these questions. Faik --- Member of The C@H Team! |

Dear all, I was disappointed not to find any publication acknowledging Cosmology@Home on this overview page: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Publications_by_BOINC_projects Has none appeared or is the information just missing from the Wiki? I hope and wish that the flops we contribute finally end up peer reviewed and published ;-) regards qcomp |

When I started running BIONC projects, somewhat over a year ago, C@H with its stated goal of “to search for the model that best describes the universe and to find the best range of models that agree with available astronomical and particle physics data” appeared to be worthwhile. I had hoped to find some explanation of how the search was to be conducted, and what was happening inside my computer. I had also hoped to find some description of what had been achieved so far. Apart from a brief statement by Professor Wendelt on 25 June 2013, which noted that an update was overdue and that he would post more “next week”, there has been nothing. Reading the forum posts, I can sense the same level of frustration from other C@H crunchers. Surely, having given millions of hours of CPU time, and the electricity to run these CPUs, we deserve a detailed explanation. The lack of feedback on this project has been deafening. Personally, I would like fairly detailed answers, given in plain English, to three questions. 1) What are the data we are crunching? It would appear that the data are derived from the Planck satellite and are, presumably, based on the Cosmic Background Radiation. In what form are these data, and how are they broken down unto individual work units? Are any other data other than the Planck CMB measurements used? 2) What are we actually crunching in C@H? What comprises an input data set for a wu, how is this data set manipulated, and what comes out as a result? I am not looking for a detailed mathematical treatise, just a simple explanation of what is happening during the 30 hours or so that my computer is processing a wu. 3) What results have come from C@H? How do these results begin to achieve the mission statement of C@H given in the first paragraph of this post? Over the years there must have been millions of CPU hours devoted to this project. No matter that the final results are not in; I feel that we deserve a progress report on the project. Professor Wendelt, I realize that you are a busy man, but it should not be impossible to find a few hours to write a report on C@H, if only as a “thank you” to the many volunteers without whom C@H could not happen. I also ask other volunteers running C@H, if they agree with what I have written, to add an endorsement to this post. |

After a break of a few years, I came here wondering if I should re-join the project. Well, maybe in another few years I'll take another look, but I won't be rejoining right now. Volunteering is a two-way street, and if the scientists can't be bothered to communicate, I'll take my cycles elsewhere. |

Martin, Absolutely-! I have been digging through a bunch of Posts, and all I am finding are "Complaints". And, by 'Complaints', I mean complaints spanning "Years" ! No one is getting "Any Answers"! From what I am able to ascertain so far about Cosmology@Home is that there is No One at the Helm, and I am Really beginning to suspect that it is just a Front that is utilizing Distributed Computing for some other purpose. What this purpose is, I would like to find out. I am of the Opinion that Cosmology@Home needs to be Investigated. (Now lets see if this post gets Deleted) "That" would be a Sign ) The Answer is: Energy/Mater was 'Generated' by "Inflation" , 'Not' the Big-Bang. |

This is my first message to this fine group. I'll try not to be completely negative. I agree with previous comments about results, methodology, reports and leadership. Let me concentrate on leadership and leave the techie discussion for another day. Can we have (or point me to) a list of leaders? I assume this is a business with a budget, sponsors, etc. Who are the board of directors? President, Secretary, VP, Treasurer, etc. Can we view the financial report? Can we view the company's annual report? What is Ben's official title (other than founder), what is Faik's title? Are either financially compensated? Is anyone financially compensated? What is the nature of the company...C Corp, LLC, Partnership, 401C3, 401c4, etc???? Is any of this any of my business? I say yes since I donate considerable time and cpu resources to this project. I have a BS in Applied Math, a MS in pure math, and lifetime job experience as a sonar signal processing engineer using my numerical math skills. I'd love to know more about the math behind this project (are we solving least squares estimates using large matrix inversions which require untold cpu time ???) or what? Dave Pitassi |

A week ago I posted on this forum, asking for information about the C@H project. See message 20137, above. So far, no-one from the project management has made any comment about my post, not even an acknowledgement that it had been read. As far as I am concerned, that is enough. Although I will complete work units already downloaded, I have set my computer to not accept any further downloads. In future I will be donating my CPU cycles to a different project. |

The only 2 scientific publication clearly linked to cosmology are 2008.... Why not a "results" section on this site? |
